This project has evolved through the current combination of a profoundly worrying state of global society with a lack of active participation among young people as detected by various youth workers. Therefore, this project is contributing to activating young people’s engagement in global policy issues on a twofold approach: By focusing on the topic of sustainability during the time of the Rio +20 conference, awareness for and understanding global processes is created. By following the approach of Global Education methodologies and content, young people will be empowered to act self-dependently and responsibly on global issues within the field of sustainability and beyond. The main goal of the project is to train young Europeans as Multipliers in Global Education with a focus on sustainability issues.More specific objectives are: - Extensive discussions and critical reflection about the - often rather vague – concept of sustainability; - To promote this critical understanding of sustainability and global education to the public; - To raise awareness about sustainability issues with regional relevance to the Baltic Sea; - To develop knowledge and skills in project management for youth workers; - To develop knowledge and skills in strategy planning and long term action; - To strengthen the cooperation's between the different project partners; - To develop concrete action plans for common future global education activities; - To create pro-active attitudes towards global issues among youth workers and to encourage participation and involvement of young people in social processes; - To develop in-depth knowledge about the Youth in Action programme, as a great provider of educational opportunities. The training will take place in Latvia and the target group are youth workers and activists, including 24 participants from 8 European Union Countries.
