PROJECT
FINISHED
The “Wiem i planuję - w drodze na europejski rynek pracy” project was open to 3rd year students of Technikum No 3 in Jastrzębie-Zdrój (advertising technician, tourism technician and trade technician) and offered 3-week vocational training placements abroad.
Dates of mobilities:
• 1st round: 1 - 21 March 2015 (one group of students: advertising technicians)
• 2nd round: 3 - 23 April 2016 (three groups of students: advertising technicians, tourism technicians and trade technicians)
The placements took place on weekdays and lasted for 6-8 hours a day (depending on the nature of the place). In the first year of the project a 10-person group of students (advertising technicians) went to Portsmouth in Great Britain.
The receiving organisation was Training Vision Ltd., which had been chosen after a thorough analysis of a few offers submitted by organisations specialising in similar trainings. In the second year a 10-person group (tourism technicians), a 17-person group of students (advertising technicians) and a 5-person group (trade technicians) were received by Tellus Education Group.
In the first year of the project the students completed their work placements in the following companies: British Heart Foundation, The Akash, Insight for Life, Charmain Florist. In the second year in the following companies: The Silver Stall, St Lukes, The Dome, The Duke of Cornwall Hotel, New Continental Hotel, The Firs Guest House, Kynance House Hotel, The Caledonia Guest House, Jewells Guest House, as well as in a training centre.
The cooperation with foreign partners enabled ZSH to fulfil its objectives (in compliance with the priorities and objectives of Erasmus+ programme): developing students' professional competences to increase their employability and increasing the competitiveness of the school by enhancing the educational offer of the school and binding it with the needs of the labour market, and strengthening the positive image of the school in the local area.
The conclusions drawn from the evaluation after the first year of the project prompted the coordinators to make the decision to change the partner. It was caused due to fears that Training Vison would not be able to guarantee proper fulfilment of the objectives of the project, because in the second year, a larger group of advertising students was about to come.
Particular emphasis was put on acquiring new or practising already possessed by students professional skills and competences within curricula for adevrtising, trade and tourism technicians. The participants were familiarised with the organisation and operation of the workplaces operating within the market economy of Great Britain, learnt how to put theory into practice and developed their language skills. They also increased their interpersonal and intercultural competences and learnt how to deal with difficult situations. The participants went on trips to Winchester, London, Isle of Wight in the first year, and to Tintagel Castle, Boscastle, London and Amsterdam in the second year. The trips enabled the students to learn about the history and culture of the countries visited.
The students were accommodated with English families, which was a great opportunity to practice language skills actively in natural conditions.
The participation in the placements abroad was a condition for passing a school practical placement. The students has been prepared for entering the local labour market. New industries developing on the market correlate with the professional profiles of ZSH's students, therefore, it is a real opportunity for them to develop themselves and find a job, and to influence the development of local enterprise in the town and surrounding area in the long run.
