Widening Worlds and Learning Together through EVS Encounters
Start date: May 1, 2016, End date: Dec 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

This EVS project brings 9 European volunteers from 6 different countries (France, Spain, Italy, Germany, Austria, Turkey) to Finland. The volunteers will be working in 5 host organisations in different parts of Finland. Most of the volunteers will be working with people with special needs in communities, workshops and special education institutes. They will assist the staff of host organisations and bring in some intercultural elements to the everyday lives of the people. One of the volunteers will be volunteering in an English language playschool to support the global education on a grassroot level. The volunteers are aged between 18 and 28. Six of them have fewer opportunities, like economic, geographical, social or educational challenges in their lives. One of the objectives of this project is to support the personal and professional development of the young volunteers, so that they could benefit from EVS experience in their future careers. The main aim of this EVS project is to enhance a mutual, intercultural learning process through the everyday encounters between the volunteers and the people they are working with at the host organisations. The volunteers have opportunities to learn about Finnish social work, special education and pre-school education. We hope that all the participants and also Finnish people they will encounter, will be able to widen their perspectives and world views. This way we hope to be able to support the growth of tolerance and peace in Europe.
