Wer bin ich? Wo will ich hin? Neue Wege in der schulischen Bildungs- und Berufsberatung
Start date: Sep 15, 2016, End date: Sep 14, 2018 PROJECT  FINISHED

Since 2010, teachers at LTETT have been developing the subject of “educational and vocational guidance”. This initiative has risen from the need to help especially the younger students in their educational choices, as students at grade 9 often make bad decisions about their future career choices, leading to stream changes, class repetition or even to early dropout. The aim of this measure was also to increase student motivation and ensure fairness towards students from lower social backgrounds.Since the educational and vocational guidance in Luxembourg, although encouraged and desirable at schools, has momentarily still no binding syllabus, the teaching staff of LTETT has set up a syllabus for grades 7-9. Given the necessity for further development of educational and vocational guidance in the school system, it is of utmost importance to constantly question its own methods and teaching aids. The development of quality results in the need of a syllabus accompanied by an evaluation by peer review. Only the neutral view from outside enables us to reconsider our own practice. As the educational and vocational guidance in Austria is much further developed, more integrated at schools and more student-centered than in Luxembourg, it is important for the LTETT to have this European partner. Both the faculty and the staff of SPOS should definitely be involved in the project. By having the opportunity to develop a common approach over a longer period of time with our Austrian partner, to test this approach, to integrate it into our own timetable, the development of educational and vocational guidance in LTETT will be guaranteed. After a SWOT analysis to determine their current position, teachers at LTETT should be enabled to develop the educational and vocational guidance within LTETT, not only by sharing knowledge with AT, but also through job shadowing in AT. The exact steps of this development work will be determined in the context of a “ future workshop” with criticism phase, imagination phase and implementation phase. The resulting training modules will then be tested at LTETT. Another meeting with the peer group in AT will be a joint evaluation. Criticisms and suggestions for improvement will then be recorded. More internship hours allow deeper insights into the functioning Austrian educational and vocational guidance system. Once these revised teaching modules have been tested once more in LTETT / LUX, a final meeting in AT will ensure the final evaluation. Peer review of the project objectives and the dissemination of project results will be planned. The plan is to establish multipliers in LTETT and beyond. With this project participants can acquire important knowledge that increases also the quality of teaching. The self-reflection is strengthened, but above all the critical view beyond the Luxembourg bigger picture opens the look for new things, motivates to try new things and to leave the beaten track. Proven methods or material will not be discarded, but further developed and adapted to individual teachers’ needs. Finally, the participants will be enabled to create learning modules in the field of educational and vocational guidance for Luxembourg.Due to this project, the educational and vocational guidance in LTETT will be enriched. Students will benefit from improved guidance and will be enabled to take more competent decisions regarding their training path. With new learning methods and materials, students should even become more motivated and more willing to perform. Training imbalances and the number of dropouts could be lowered. Furthermore the training companies will benefit from an increased quality of teaching in the field of educational and vocational guidance and the subsequent employer will benefit from this increased competence of students of LTETT.Project skills and experiences acquired by the project participants during the project will be shared in meetings and internal training first within LTETT. In LTETT many other multipliers will then be trained. Since the LTETT is in thorough contact with other schools in Luxembourg and organizes annual training events over ifen about educational and vocational guidance, external multiplying is also guaranteed. Not only LTETT, but also other schools in Luxembourg can therefore benefit from this international exchange.
