Weniger – Bunter – Älter: Strategien zur Bewältigung des demografischen Wandels durch eine demografieangepasste innovative Pflegeausbildung
Start date: Jun 1, 2016, End date: May 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

The working basis in the nursing and care profession is currently changing due to demographic change: Germany's population is becoming less, more colorful and older which has a particular impact on care professions. This development is reinforced by political innovations, such as the introduction of telemedicine or the generalist care training. In the long term, Caritas Germany therefore has to adapt its care training courses in such a way, that future professionals are well prepared and qualified for new challenges. To do so, Caritas Germany can learn a lot from other European countries. Through the participants' experiences and their role als multiplier, curriculae and teaching methods in the care training and education can be further developed. To encourage such a learning process, 20 employees of the nationwide Caritas who design and develop training courses in the care sector or teach within these courses are selected for a learning experience in another European country. Since demographic change affects all areas of care (elderly care, family care, child care, etc.), participation in the project is open to training managers and teachers of all nursing professions offered by Caritas Germany. The learning experience takes place within two organisations in Austria, which has a very similar system of care provision compared to Germany, and two organisations in Sweden, which is often quoted as a model for care provision in the context of demographic change. The participants are hosted in small groups of 4-5 people for five working days (plus arrival and departure) in the partner organisation and learn different strategies, systems and best-practice examples on how to organise care and nursing education. In the partner institutions, the participants do a job shadowing, have discussions and meetings with relevant stakeholders. The concrete details of the programme will be developed jointly by the participants and the partner organisation. The participants' quality of their work can be enhanced by the experience abroad, a European network with mutual benefits can be built and the linguistic and intercultural skills of the participants can be improved. In addition, new ideas for the development of the participants' home institutions can be found.Since the project aims to have a broader impact on the participating organisations and claims to contribute to the political and sociatal debate, a special attention is paid to the evaluation and dissemination of its results: The participants act as multipliers, the project results will be disseminated through a consistent PR work and presented on several multiplier events. In addition, political conclusions are developped from the project results which will be used by the representatives of Caritas Germany in Berlin and Brussels for their advocacy work on a national and european level.
