The Bilateral Youth Exchange Project ?We are Rural Youth' took place in P?rkone, South-Western Latvia. 30 participants from Latvijas Mazpulki and Landjugend Oberwölz took part in a five-day educational program. The goal of the project was to promote youth employment in rural areas as well as promote rural entrepreneurship. During the program the participants took part in workshops, discussions and practical activities, demonstrating the importance of youth involvement in rural economy. In addition, the participants visited and learned from successful rural entrepreneurs (these were - biological goat farm "Baroni", producer of canned goods and wine "Durbes veltes", and Agricultural services co-operative society "Durbes grauds") as well as learned how to better position themselves on the labor market. Moreover, at the end of the youth exchange the participants used the obtained knowledge to come up with their own rural business ideas (e.g. Alpaca farm, whisky distillery, 2in1 children camp and dairy farm, etc). Furthermore, the project also aimed to promote social dialogue, EU citizenship and healthy living. In conclusion, the participants got equipped with knowledge on youth employment and rural entrepreneurship that will benefit not only themselves but also their organizations and local communities.
