"Street Art - Association for innovative youth work" in Austira is planning to apply for a youth exchange in Vienna.
"We are Europe"
Topics: gender, multiculturalism, youth unemployment
Aims: intercultural communication, exchange of experiences, learning from each other, spending an enriching and inspiring time together
Target group: young people 12-20 years
"We are Europe" is a youth exchange, which supports the international and intercultural communication and exchange of experiences, of the different – nevertheless maybe similar – life realities of the teenagers and adolescents.
During the visit in Vienna, there will be three main topics – gender, multiculturalism and unemployment - which will be approached through different methods. The goal is to make the participants aware of these topics, but in a playfully way, which makes it more easy for them to reflect on their own experiences and lives, as well as to listen to the other participants situations and develop a feeling and deeper understanding for other peoples realities and other cultures traditions.
For instance, on the topic of multiculturalism, there will be a multicultural dinner prepared by the kids themselves. This gives them the possibility to present their own culture to others, on the one hand, and also allows the others to experience a different culture which they might not have done before. Also there will be a creative music-workshop, which aims on the artistic reflection on multilingualism – especially as music presents an outstanding opportunity to people to express and share their feelings.
On the topic of gender there will be different creative – for example a photo-competition – but also sportive actions, as we plan to do a big soccer tournament, of course in mixed teams. On both, the topic of gender and unemployment, there will be discussions and debates, so that the participants can reflect on their own attitude on the topic. In the case of unemployment and employment market, this will be especially important, as we will have a special activity-program on the content of dream-jobs and job wishes of the youths.
Despite all these content related goals, the biggest and most important goal of “We are Europe” is to spend an enriching and inspiring time together with all participants – so that we all – youths and tutors – make new experiences and get the opportunity to learn something from each other.
