The Waste Training Tool project will develop a flexible, interactive, waste management training tool on CD-Rom for use primarily by SMEs in the planning and implementation of effective waste management.Tighter control on environmental impacts and growing recognition of the inherent value of waste requires companies to have a more detailed understanding of their resource consumption, process efficiencies, sources of waste and the resource value of their waste materials.The Waste Training Tool, developed for such companies, will comprise self-learning materials on waste management, waste minimisation and production of a waste management plan plus a series of short self-assessment exercises to enable individual learners to recognise progress. The CD-Rom, in addition to a series of support documentation will be initially produced in 5 of the 6 partner languages (EN, DE, RO, SK & IT).The majority of project activity will focus upon the development of materials and the CD-Rom itself, although initial distribution (to a small number of users) and piloting of materials is further planned within the lifetime of the project. Full distribution and marketing is expected beyond the lifetime of the project whereby commercialisation of the end-result is to be considered.A dedicated website is to be further developed to promote the end project results and a final activity is planned in investigating the potential for accreditation of the training course & materials developed.
