VOSIDIS - Specialized vocational training for people with severe and profound intellectual disabilities

The project entitled Specialized vocational training for people with severe and profound intellectual disabilities (PSPID) is aiming at developing work-related skills and competences of PSPID by providing them specialized working skills training, enabling their inclusion into the working process and developing a systematic approach to their working skills training in the participating countries Slovenia, Bulgaria and Portugal. The VOSIDIS project is partly co-financed (75 %) by the European Union, within the Lifelong Learning Leonardo da Vinci programme. First activities of the project began in October 2008, duration of the project is 22 months.The applicant of the project is Centre for qualifying, work and social care Črna na Koroškem, Slovenia.Partners in VOSIDIS project are:- Alianta, project consulting, Ljubljana, Slovenia,- Bulgarian Association of People with Intellectual Disabilities, Sofia, Bulgaria,- FENACERCI – National Federation of Social Cooperatives, Lisbon, Portugal.The most important project outcome will be the developed methodology for working skills training of PSPID, accompanied by motivational training modules and seminars for trainers. Pilot implementation of trainings will be conducted for their verification. On the basis of all results the Guide for vocational training of PSPID will be published that will be targeted at professionals and decision makers. Dissemination activities will assure promotion of the methodology in professional public and combat prejudice against PSPID in the general public.Short term project impact will be improved skills and competences of PSPID, who will be included in the training and working process, and of their trainers. The methodology will become a useful training tool integrated in the everyday work with PSPID in all partner institutions. It will be applicable also to other institutions working with people with severe and profound intellectual disabilities. On the long term this could result in the inclusion of a visible number of PSPID into working processes, which will bring an increased meaning to their life and a positive impact on their inclusion in the society.First project results will be realized in March 2009. Below is a list of all planned outcomes of the VOSIDIS project:- Report on needs analysis and state of the art in the field of vocational training for PSPID,- Training modules for trainers,- Establishment of the working environment for PSPID,- Vocational and motivation and socialization training modules for PSPID,- Pilot implementation of vocational training for PSPID,- Guide for vocational training of PSPID,- Final conference and professional consultation.
