“Volunteers for the Community” is a European Voluntary Service programme aiming to promote active participation and volunteerism, along with the creation of good and meaningful collaborations among civil society organizations, public institutions and individuals for the creation and implementation of common activities that benefit the community. The project consists of 2 long term EVS activities or both of which the sending organisation is Rock Solid Foundation for International youth work (Netherlands) and the hosting organisation is K.A.NE. Social Youth Development (Greece). Both activities will take place in Kalamata, Greece.Activity A1 involves 1 volunteer for an EVS period of 12 months, from the 1st of February 2016 to the 23rd of January 2017 and activity A2 involves 1 volunteer for a period of 10 months, from the 4th of April 2016 to the 30th of January 2017. Both volunteers will be between 18-30 years old and priority will be given to young people with fewer opportunities and people that demonstrate a clear interest and motivation to be involved in the activities of this specific project. To accomplish its objectives and succeed in achieving the best possible learning outcomes for both volunteers, the daily schedules and division of tasks is such as to, through a series of non-formal education methods and informal learning, give the opportunity to the young volunteers to develop skills and competences at personal, social and professional levels. The volunteers in both activities will work together with local volunteers in order to support and enrich the daily work of community structures and the activities they offer mainly for the youth and people with disabilities of the local community. What we seek to achieve through this project is the development of skills and competences of the volunteers, on the one hand, and on the other to give an intercultural dimension and a fresh prospect and ideas to community structures and activities. What is more, we aim at promoting volunteerism and active participation, not only among the young people of the community, but also among the rest of the population, both during the project, as well as long after it.
