Slatinka Association is a non-governmental organization whose mission is nature conservation and environmental protection. The Association acts as an information point on volunteering, is dedicated to environmental education (especially children and young people) and practical environmental protection. Community that relate to our activities are mainly residents and visitors Slatinka village, and also the general public in Zvolen, including local authorities, young people and scientists in the field of protection of environment.
The aim of the project "Volunteers for Slatinka" was through informal education of 2 volunteers to support their participation in public life - informal learning focused to acquire new knowledge of ecology and environmental protection, gain practical skills in working with children and young people in environmental education, development of communication skills, civic and social skills.
The second objective of the project was to increase the perceived value of volunteering among young people in the region but also among adults who ofthen believe that young people are not interested and motivated for volunteering. The presence of foreign volunteers and their active involvement in the local young volunteers (as well as "ordinary" young people) allows for the possibility to see volunteering from a different perspective and can be motivated to be more active in the future.
Project lasting a total of 14 months participated 1 volunteer with socially and economically disadvantaged background from from Spain (10 months) and one volunteer from France (10 months). Both are in operation with members of the association and other (Slovak) volunteers learn new things - develop their skills and gain competencies: learn to work with children and young people, prepare education activities for them. Created a number of educational games for kids, coverages with interesting places in Zvolen, assist in the management of valuable sites participated in the repair of the trail. Both volunteers have prepared their individual project based on the preferences of the volunteers as well as fit in the work of the association. Despite the communication limits of Spanish volunteer both of them expressed satisfaction with the level of new skills and competencies, in internal evaluation both volunteers received Youthpass.
The project had an impact on both the participating volunteers - as a result of improved communication skills. The Spanish volunteer planning to apply for a job abroad, a French volunteer is scheduled for autumn return to Slovakia and continue to work for our association and voluntary. For Slatinka Association brought the project visible / tangible results in the form of an improved status of natural habitats in Zvolen and in Slatinka, actual monitoring data of environmental protection, new educational games and activities for children and young people with sound presentation and photo albums, as well as a manual for others EVS volunteers of Slovakia, Zvolen and Slatinka. Invisible results were new ideas, procedures, as well as contacts, reorganizing administrative coverage and content of the project as well as projects in the future. The smallest impact did the cooperation of participating organizations - in the future we would like to cooperate with the two organizations, for Spain, but we will insist on a better selection of volunteers respectively we will pay more attention for detailed and realistic information about their capacities and skills (especially communication).
