Volunteers at Waldorf School

To strengthen non-formal education ABVS school in the frames of the project "Volunteers at the Waldorf School" programhosted two young volunteers from Spain and Germany. Both young women have been operating at school for 10 months, duringwhich have acquired Waldorf pedagogy teaching methods, educational teaching principles in Latvia, as well as got deeper intoLatvian culture and its traditions. Maren – a volunteer from Germany, who had just graduated from the secondary school isworking in the nursery/kindergarten with children aged 3-6 years, while Laia -a young woman from Spain, who has pedagogicaleducation was involved into the lessons and extracurricular activities. In the project was used non-formal education andintercultural teaching methods like: observation, planning, discussion, negotiation, practical operation and other.Laia was involved as a teacher's assistant in the third class. She was delegated to organise and teach a lesson rhythmic partwhere children played the flute and studied how to play the guitar and kokle (Latvian harp). In addition, the girl exercised herpersonal ideas in everyday learning process and festival celebration. Laia helped with and guided language lessons. Alongsidewith the class children and their parents she helped to built “coordination and balance bridge” in the school yard, which wassupported by the project "Society with a soul". Since the cooperation with the volunteer was a mutually successful, the schooladministration found an opportunity for Laia to work in our school for one more year in order to study and exploring in-depthWaldorf pedagogy.Maren participating in the daily rhythm at the nursery school/kindergarten, learned about Waldorf pedagogy and its guidelines inthe first seven-year period of a child. Simultaneously to that, she has learned various crafts like: knitting with fingers, felting,sewing, crocheting and other. In this period were produced designed by Maren, embroidered and sewn curtains. Girl studiedphotography and the result of it is by the end of the project designed for each child a personal photo album.
