The goal of the project is to care for the weakest in the society (the excluded, lonely and isolated persons by offering social contact, food, a chat and help to solve social and personal problems. The project has the task of being the voice of the excluded in connection to oppression and neglection from the established society. This task of helping and serving other people, the counselling by professionals gives the young volunteers the possibility of developing as a person as well as learning from the multicultural model can broaden their perspective, way of life. The project is situated in Berehove, a town located in the Zakarpattia Oblast (province) in western Ukraine, near the border with Hungary. The area is known for its old traditions cultivating grapes and wine production. Today, the town is the center of the Hungarian inhabitants in Transcarpathia. Although it is comparatively small town with a population of about 26, 000 people, it is usually taken as a very busy student town. The two volunteers coming from Italy and the Netherlands will take part in the project in a 12-months period. The local project covers a vast area of activities, as the community has many areas of service. The volunteer takes part in many different tasks in different areas of the project and chooses areas of efforts according to their own interests: talking to the old people, taking them hot meal, playing games with Roma children, meeting youth groups, etc. In every task the volunteer is connected to a staff-member for guidance and supervision. We believe this is not just a great help for these people in need but through this the volunteer will grow as a person and come to know more about her/himself, about meeting people with problems in general and understanding social structures.
