The project offered a 12 month placement for a Hungarian volunteer in Vienna, Austria in Romano Centro, the biggest Roma-NGO in the country. A Hungarian volunteer will got the chance to live and work in Vienna for one year and contributed through her work to combat antigypsyism in Austria/Europe, to strengthen Roma youngsters in Vienna, to raise awareness on the situation of Roma in Hungary. Through working in Romano Centro and being accompanied by a supervisor and a mentor the volunteer was be able to significantly improve her skills and get important experience in the work of an NGO. This was especially valuable for the volunteer because she wants to work fo a human rights NGO in the future. The volunteer had various tasks and had the choice to set her own preferences. She integrated very well in the team and was involved in the following activities: reporting, monitoring and publishing cases of racism, the youth work, the publications of the organization, the library, the education projects and in all kind of events and activities directed to the general public or certain groups such as pupils, teachers or students. Besides this she supported the daily work in the office.
Romano Centro did benefit very much from the interaction with a young person from Hungary, from her experience and knowledge and from her support and own ideas.
The volunteering-experience was very valuable for the volunteer and had a bid impact on the development of her personal skills and knowledge and opened further opportunities in the job market.
