Volunteer for Better World
Start date: Jan 1, 2016, End date: Dec 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

Volunteer for Better World is a European Voluntary Service project coordinated and hosted by Kansainvälinen vapaaehtoistyö ry (KVT). KVT is a Finnish voluntary work organisation that promotes peace, equality, human rights, environmental protection and sustainable development by organising voluntary work projects in Finland and sending Finnish volunteers to voluntary work abroad. In this project a young person from Ireland will work at the KVT office in Helsinki for 9 months between February and October 2016. The main objective of the project is to offer a young person a chance to participate in the many aspects of NGO work. At KVT these include organising trainings, managing volunteers and visiting voluntary work projects and participating in the work KVT does with asylum seekers in Finland. The volunteer will plan and carry out projects together with local and international volunteers. She will also have a chance strengthen many skills connected to office and NGO management as well as learn Finnish and build her capacity with intercultural communication. The expected impact of the project is that the volunteer will better understand the role and the place of NGOs in a democratic European society and how the third sector can serve as a gateway to youth participation and inclusion in the society at large.
