"Tunisia’s revolution in January 2011, which saw a popular uprising chase a despot from power, sparked off the Arab Spring. The courage of Tunisia’s youth and the nonviolent nature of the young people who rose up were an inspiration to other movements across the Arab region in what came to be known as the Arab Spring." (Youth work in Tunisia after the revolution, 2013, SALTO Euromed Publication)From January 2011 on, there are ongoing transition processes towards democracy, not only in Tunisia, but generally in the MENA region as well. But harmonizing the fracture between a totalitarian regime and democratic values, in order to build up a modern and free state has always been a challenge. The transformation effects the increasing growth of civil society organizations as well. Even though young people are highly active in these new organizations, their roles and voices are still limited in the society and politics. Therefore, there is a strong need for high quality training opportunities in the fields of political, media and intercultural education for young people. With Web 2.0 and Social Media new channels of communication have risen on the internet, as it has already been shown in the “Arab Spring”. But the level of communication in online posts is most limited to short comments, announcements or photos. For an adequate presentation and deeper discussion about the topics of civil engagement and active citizenship, skills in research, narration and audio-visual expression of political and social themes are needed. Our project is offering training for people engaged in NGOs: full-time or voluntary based youth workers. The objectives of the project are based on the needs of the partner organizations: to improve their daily work with youth, using quality tools and methods in media education (focusing especially on "vlogging", combining blogging with video making), to gain knowledge about funding opportunities and to strengthen connections with partners on the Euro-Mediterranean level. The training activity will take place in Tunisia, in the spring of 2016. The participating organizations have already been involved in common projects and therefore, rely on each others expertise on their primarily field of youth work: media education or the fields of civic engagement, active citizenship and democracy. The training course will be implemented by non-formal educational methods and require active participation from the participants. During the activity, constructive feedbacks are warmly welcome and appreciated as they will enhance the quality and the success of future projects carried out by the partner organizations, additionally follow-up projects building bridges between the EU and the MENA region.
