Viva Volunteering

The volunteers will be involved in the projects currently run by Serfenta. Part of activities will be helping with some office works, necessary to function. Writting short articles about what is done and promoting the organization will be very welcome. This will be connected with learning about general rules of running NGO, art education and culture and many other topics. The volunteers will take part in trips with children, workshops, help to manage cultural events, presentations, and promotion the volunteering. They will help during presentation of our photography exhibition ”Let it weave!” and craft workshops and participate in outdoor art events that are connected with weaving. We will invite them to show their culture to the local youth. They will be also encourage to develop their own project (e.g organizing some workshops, happenings). in cooperation with another local associations, also from the Czech part of the city. They will take a part in the long term international project ”Viva Basket!” which is the strategy of revitalizing basketry as a field of craft, carried by Serfenta since 2009. Thus it corresponds with the Polish programme of protecting vanishing professions carried by The Ministry of Culture and UNESCO. The actions will include: ethnographic field research, presenting the project exhibition, 2 day international conference, and outdoor weaving in Cieszyn. Working hours in our office in general are between 9 am and 4 pm, although in case of trips it could be necessary to start earlier It is possible we will ask for help at the weekends (e.g organizing some workshops, conferences), if that happens the volunteer will have possibility to take day off later. Working hours will include meeting with mentor and language training. We will support our volunteers before, during and after the EVS activities, focusing especially on crisis prevention and management (volunteer will be in direct contact with his project coordinator and mentor who will always be ready to help him/her with his/her problems), we will take care of any mediacl necessities. Our volunteers will go through the whole EVS training cycle (pre-departure training, on-arrival training, mid-term meeting and final evaluation). Our volunteers are going to have at least one meeting every two weeks with their project coordinator to evaluate the progress and adapt the existing content of the project to the volunteer’s needs. Hosting organization will be in permanent touch with sending organizations and will evaluate the information about volunteers activities. The volunteer will be actively involved in our activities. At the beginning, he will help us to prepare and organize meetings As we want to give each volunteer an opportunity for self-fulfillment, we will give him a space to implement his own ideas with our full support. The volunteers will also take a parrt in the long term international project ”Viva Basket” which is the strategy of revitalizing basketry as a field of craft, carried by Serfenta Association since 2009. One of the areas of interest are skills connected with traditional crafts. Working hours in our office in general are between 9 am and 4 pm, although in case of trips it could be necessary to start earlier It is possible we will ask for help at the weekends (e.g organizing some workshops, conferences), if that happens the volunteer will have possibility to take day off later. Working hours will include meeting with mentor and language training. In the beggining of project we will introduce the volunteers in our work and later he/she can decide together with the coordinator and plan his/her own activities to make the process of personal development more efficient.
