VIRTUAL LEARNING ENVIRONMENT FOR RATIONAL DRUG USE

Ineffective, inaccurate and unnecessary use of medicines has been inclined to increase in delivery of health care services in our country. Irrational use of medicines, which is increasingly becoming a world-wide problem, needs to be handled more carefully due to the increase in both health problems and costs. Physicians’ consciousness and responsibility for evidence-based and cost-effective prescription should be emphasized; physicians should be regularly informed on technology-based new treatment methods, new medicines and evidence-based medicine and necessary incentives should be enabled. In this context, the capacity of physicians should be promoted by raising their awareness in “rational drug use” and “evidence-based medicine”. In the scope of the Project, it is targeted to facilitate the acquisition of knowledge, skills and attitudes for rational use of drugs through training modules of virtual learning environment by physicians who are assigned in Ankara Provincial Health Directorate as the first step and to generalize these trainings in the country with the Ministry of Health as the second step in long- term. The partners of the proposed project have enough capacity and skills for achieving the project. Each partner was selected for a specific part of the project and has balanced responsibility. Especially, our partner of transferred project has very large experiences and skills in the virtual learning environment and it will be our guide. We selected the Ankara Provincial Health Directorate for strong dissemination. This is very big potential to reach more people for our proposed project. Other abroad partners will be the internal evaluators of the project. Scientists Solidarity Association and School of Public Health will give the support of the content of the education with the support of an academician group. So, as a whole, all the legs of the projects for achieving the project are ready and enough.By this project, we will develop virtual learning environment modules, rational drug use education curriculum, web-site and certification system.In short term impact, Physicians consisting target group will acquire knowledge, skills and attitudes for Rational Use of Drugs. In long term impact, inneffective, inaccurate and unnecessary use of medicines will be diminished directly and evidence-based and cost-effective prescription rates will be increased. It will impede the efforts to include rational use of drugs lectures in curriculums of faculties of medicine.
