Violence in Dating for Youth

Recent studies reveal that 1 student of 5 used violence on her girlfriend and 1 girl of 2 is inclined to forgive him. Violence in dating contexts has been recognized recently as a worrying social problem. Such violence in young people takes prominence, not only for its consequences on physical and mental health, but also because aggessive behaviours can be transferred to the adult stage. Dating in adolescence is usually their first experience of intimate relationship which may arise situations violence, whether physical, sexual or psychological considering their different perceptions and difficulty to identify violent behaviour. Pressures, insecurities, passion, jalousy, control, gender issue, lack of experience, lack of educational paths aimed to prevent these factors in schools contributes will be the main topics focused by the consortium .In this context, VIDA YOUTH seeks the general objective to Reduce youth violence in dating reaching specific objectives:- Improvement of the problem awareness by young people, educators, youth organizations and public institutions;- Improvement of young people relationship skills;- Improvement of personal sense of security;- Improvement of the formal, non formal and informal education system on the topic.VIDA YOUTH will involve 400 young people between 15 and 18 years old through a class-room project work Moreover, the project planned to involve 100 educators, teachers, youth workers, trainers in order to improve the consortium outputs.The project implies three main phases:- preparation: each partner will promote the project to the schools and institutions in contact with young people selecting educators interested in following the project. in addition , each partner will prepare an education module to be presented during the joint staff training event ancona in which the partners will present their educational modules. the consortium will elaborate a joint document to present to educators.- implementation: it will be divided in two sessions, the first one will be te exchange of good practices elaborated during the meeting in Ancona to educators who will analyse the work and will deliver their feedback. The interim meeting will integrate the educators feedback with the educational modules that will be adopted for the second session. the second session will be the class-room project work in which the partners will implement the educational modules with students evaluation the learning outcome and the level of satisfaction of students and teachers.- dissemination & exploitation of results: the final educational modules will be disseminate through online channels, seminars, meetings and info-day toward schools, public institutions and youth organizations. The website of the project will allow to downloadthe document so as to measure the level of interest on it. The consortium will organize a final conference at the University of Murcia.The consortium will adopt different methodologies according to the actors involved: peer-learning, good practices exchange and open discussion with other partners during the meeting; peer-learning and bottom-up approach with educators during the first implementation phase; non-formal activities with young students using videos, articles, role games, simulations, practical excercises and open debate during the class-room project work. The aims of the non formale methodology during the activities with students will bento give them elements to drive the discussion letting them to develop the activities. The activites and the methodologies above mentioned will allow to produce the following results:- awareness raising: the project aims to spread the knowledge about the violence in dating of youth making them aware of the reasons of violence and its potential dangers, causes and physical, psycological and legal consequences.- relationship skills development: the class-room project work activities aim to raise young people awareness on the topic, their civic and tolerance values and behaviour and their sense of security.- formal education empowerment:, the dissemination phase will encourage secondary schools, including educational centers and public insititutions to embed this topic within their degrees.VIDA YOUTH will impact in raising the youth work quality, reducing youth violence and improving the sense of security within the participating communities. Students, especially women and weak people, will raise their sense of security acquiring new soft skills related to relationship management. The improvement of partners knowledge on the topic, their presence in the local community and the accessibility of the educational modules on the website, will produce indirect benefits on the long term run for schools, parents and youth organizations interested in implementing the activities maintaining the possibility to improve, adapt and integrate the modules and the attention on the topic.
