Violence as a climate Killer- mentors for a violent-free school
Our day-to- day life in school is increasingly disrupted by aggressive behavior. The well- of the pupils is largely dependent on an atmosphere of security and mutual respect both in the classroom and school in general.A school climate in which pupils feel comfortable and able to concentrate on their studies can contribute greatly to sustainable learning. The proposed project is an educational approach to the prevention of violence, making use of the educational value of boxing when confronted with violence in everyday life.Teaching respect not only for others but also for oneself will be of central importance.Furthermore pupils should learn certain rules and to how to stick to them. They should also improve their physical awareness and self-confidence. Pupils will have the opportunity to compete and experience fair physical competition. Another aim is to increase tolerance levels when faced with conflict. The confrontation between two people which is central to boxing teaches the importance of responsibility for one´s partner. Pupils will have the opportunity to vent frustration and aggression and learn that boxing can be a good way of letting off steam. They should also learn to take blows rather than just becoming fond of using their fists.Another aim of the project is to enable pupils to recognize aggression and learn to channel it as well as to prevent the escalation of conflicts. In this way pupils take on the responsibility for creating a positive atmosphere at their school and will be able to pass on the idea of solving conflicts without violence.Mutual respect is not only an additional prerequisite, but also an aim of intercultural learning. In this context this project is particularly suitable for multilateral partnerships between schools.
