vidusign - video education and sign language
Start date: Jan 1, 2014,

Vidusign is about the creative use of video for young Deaf people aged 15-24 who are in transition from school to work. Video has been used for a long time in connection with sign language but most of the time as a static communication tool. Vidusign would like to explore the creative side of video and support creative discovery and problem-solving learning. It will be based on a visual approach and transversal work - across different countries and sign languages. Developed out of a synergy of high level competences within video education and sign language the partners would like to strengthen visual and literacy competencies of Deaf people as a key to a barrier-free Europe in education and the world of work. After initial pre-research done by two European excellence Universities, vidusign will produce six video models. A production matrix will provide ideas for teachers and learners to get involved in the creative use of video from beginning to advanced level - starting with basic video production (one shot video and online broadcast), intermediate (stop motion and photo stories) and advanced examples (Deaf poetry video and short documentary). Teacher training institutes and associations will translate the ideas into pedagogical material for educators across Europe using creative classroom methodologies. This will include printed and online material but also video tutorials suited for Deaf learners. A final implementation stage will finetune and promote these ideas through workshops and online courses across Europe and beyond. Vidusign will be integrated into the successful European network “viducate” and will continue ideas developed for a creative and empowering use of video but for the audience of young Deaf people. The project has been inspired by the video from Equalizent Vienna: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zonCieHQT84
