Youth Centre Villa Elba coordinates VIA 2015! Volunteers in Action -project. This project will host young people from Austria, Hungary, Portugal and Germany to work with local young people and children. Our area is rural and people mostly lives in small communities with few possibilities to have intrenational contacts. By having international volunteer working together with local people we hope to make multiculturality and internationality as a natural part of young peoples everyday life.
The idea behind the project is to engourage local (young) people for intercultural communication and show them the possibilities of Erasmus+. The volunteers will be active members of the working community and are also encouraged to bring their own culture and ideas for making the interaction work in both ways and to make all parties also valor their own culture and values. The volunteers live and work in the same conditions as locals do and get to know thoroughly the everyday life in their hosting communities. We also want to give volunteers from our partner countries a possibility to learn more and get more (work) experience by participating this project.
We will host totally 7 volunteers in this project and young people with fewer opportunities is our main priority. The volunteers are youngsters enthusiastic to learn about other cultures and European realities, creative people with own ideas and motivation to do voluntary work.
-Youth and Nature Centre Vasatokka, Inari:
Volunteers will work with experienced guides and help them in outdoor group activities like gps-orienteering, ice fishing, skiing and survival skills and in Arctic Ocean tour. Volunteers will also help in maintenance and in kitchen.
Ylivieska Youth department

Volunteers can also organise with other workers different kind of camps for children. During these kind of camps the volunteers will be leading different kind of workshops, support the children with the everyday tasks and encourage them to independence.
-Kauhajoki Youth Department
The volunteer will work together with local youth workers with many different tasks within the youth work in Kauhajoki. The main idea is that the volunteer will work in the Youth house Räimiskä. There s/he can meet youngsters, spend time with them, plan clubs, hobbies or evenings that s/he wants to carry out. For an example s/he can arrange a language course of her own language etc.
-Kokkotyö-säätiö
The volunteer is working in the media workshop of Kokkotyö-säätiö. Media workshop is the main workshop in this project, but the volunteer can be also working in other workshops for some periods or e.g. one day per week, depending on his
interests and skills. The volunteers tasks are supporting the trainees in their everyday tasks, the work can be activating both socially as activating into the actual work. The volunteer has a chance to improve his/her people skills, learn about mentoring people and coordinating multiple activities.
-Nykarleby Ridklubb
The volunteers everyday work contains of working with the horses and at the riding club, taking care of the horses, feeding them, cleaning stables and helping out at riding lessons. The volunteers also help with maintenance work: repairing paddocks, smaller reparations, cleaning and building fences, in witner time also snow work and helping to keep the area safe and clean.
The volunteer can join the activities organised by the youth council of the riding club.
In this project volunteers will have a common theme, clobal education. When the volunteers have their first mentoring meeting they will have a clobal education training. During their projects they will somehow introduce this theme in their hosting organisations. They can prepare for example a workshop, play, exhibition, video or bulletin to the city center. They will get help with this from their mentor or supervisor from the coordinating organisation.
Our project meet the programme priorities as we work with such young people who does not have other possibilties to gain international experiences. We also encourage young people to actively participate in the society and to take responsibility for themselves and people nearby. Voluntary work is an excellent way to support young people to gain more initiative, to become more indepent and at the same time develop their idea and thoughts about european citizenship. The idea is also to bring internationality into the everyday life of our local youngsters in order to make multiculturality a visible and natural part of their everyday life.
Inclusion of young people with fewer opportunities is our main priority, as trough offering young people a chance to gain new experiences and finding their strenghts we can help them them to overcome different kind of obstacles and support them in finding creative paths into adulthood.
