VET-BOOM - Vocational and Educational Training for Building Observation, Operation and Maintenance

The project's ultimate aim is to demonstrate that the creation of the new professions of "Building Surveyor" and "Building Maintenance Technician" in accession countries could be both practically useful and cost-efficient in managing building stock. As a first step, the project will develop a new, flexible, learner-centred education system, for graduate professionals or young graduates, combining traditional teaching methods with e-learning and/or multimedia tools. Results will include new ICT tools, curricula, course modules, teaching materials, an evaluation report and the eventual launch of accreditation procedures via partner universities. A thorough evaluation process will strengthen the case for recognition of the new professions and general application of the training system. Documents and materials will be adapted following pilot courses and evaluation, will be available in all partner languages (DA, EN, IT, HU, RO & SK) and will be accessible on-line, on CD-Rom or as paper-based material. An elaborate dissemination strategy is central to achieving the project's objectives. Trainees who participate in pilot courses will receive their new qualifications at a publicised graduation ceremony and become ambassadors of the approach with their local authority or housing association employers. The construction sector will be informed via presentations/demonstrations of the impact of good practice. More widely, the advantages of a sustainable development approach to building maintenance will be promoted via owners' associations, SME managers and decision-makers.
