Verbesserung der Unterrichtqualität im fremdsprachlichen Bereich und und im fächerübergreifenden Unterricht durch integriertes Fremdsprachen- und Sachfachlernen (CLIL)
Start date: Jun 26, 2014, End date: Jun 25, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

With the increased Europeanization, internationalization of education and networking between speakers of other languages, it is imperative that teachers develop competences and skills that will enable students to gain confidence in the use of foreign languages. The aim of or two year project for teaching staff is to provide our students with the skills to participate in all aspects of life within Europe. Through language competence students are encouraged to take part in various European projects and to develop an European awareness. Language skills are an ever growing requirement in the European community and we hope that our students will become more desirable in the European labour market. Therefore we need to improve our teacher´s competences in language teaching. We intend to send three of our most motivated and creative teachers to Pilgrims Teacher Training at Kent University. The courses will give our teachers new resources and methodology to improve their quality of teaching. We focus on methodology such as student centred approaches and integrated learning like CLIL offers. By sending three members of our staff on European courses abroad, we also hope to find potential partners for exchange and future projects. The partipants we send on these courses will act as multipliers. They will be able to transfer the skills they have learned throughout the school and so our whole staff will benefit from new ideas too. Especially the Language Deparment will benefit and become the backbone to indroduce new methodology and CLIL at our school. We hope that through promoting language competence students will develop a sustainable, democratic and European way of thinking. This goal should be achieved by the three members of our staff, who studied the CLIL-Method (content and language integrated learning), a bilingual teaching method, which is presently being implemented in our school. The results of our project are already exhibited in different student projects, e.g. a bilingually taught drama club. Students were able to develop English comedy sketches, which were then presented to members of European exchange partners, local politicians and the Minister of education and cultural affairs of Lower-Saxony, Mrs. Heiligenstadt.
