Start date: Aug 1, 2016, End date: Jan 31, 2018 PROJECT  FINISHED

So called “Jongerenketen” (self made places where youth comes together) is a form of citizenship that fit the tradition of the countryside. “Jongerenketen” have an important social function for young people in rural areas. Local government struggles with forming policy on “jongerenketen”. Because they are on private land and often outside the view of the local authorities and they are in a gray area of the law and regulations. Local government have no contact with these young people. “Jongerenketen” need to stay for their high social value, but there must also be focus on possible alcohol abuse and insecurity of the “jongerenketen”. Involvement of young people in making policies is also necessary: policy can only work properly if it is supported by all parties and therefore are involved.Plattelandsjongeren.nl is responding by this project. Since 2010 she has been active on “jongerenketen” and has extensive experience in the field of youth participation. In this project Plattelandsjongeren.nl connects local policy makers and youth with the ultimate goal of forming effective policy on “jongerenketen”. During these meetings they are working together on the necessary input. Young people have an important role in it.In 4 local areas there will be organised a meeting where structured dialogue is central. On each meeting there will be participating 30 young people and 20 policy makers or otherwise involved experts. The aim of the meeting is getting an idea of how the different actors see the role / position of the “jongerenketen” and obtain information about topics that are important for policy on “jongerenketen”: alcohol policy, fire safety, involvement parents etc. Also implementation of this policy and persistent youth participation will have its place here. Therefor various assignments, teaching methods and methodologies are used escorted by young people from the trainer pool of Plattelandsjongeren.nl. Think of debates, brainstorming, discussion forms, etc. These methods are designed to be appropriate for rural youth and policymakers and puts them in a creative, constructive and equitable manner together.Earnings per local area are contact with young people and the necessary input to form policy on “jongerenketen” and its implementation. There will be a better policy on “jongerenketen” that is effective and supported by the youth who it is relevant to. Also will be looked at the role of young people in the further development and implementation of the policy so there will be long term youth participation and contact between local policy makers and youth.Policy makers have better insight into what the thougts of youth are and what kind of methods and communication works with young people. Youth participation can be used in policy-making in the future and on other topics. Young people skills in expressing their opinion and contribute to decision making on policy concerning for them relevant themes. They experience the effects of this policy in their daily lives. They can also benefit from the skills learned in their future development and opportunities.
