PROJECT
FINISHED
LEARNING by WATCHING and LISTENING (the audio and video as a motor of learning)
CONTEXT OF THE PROJECT
The state school ?COMUNIDAD VALENCIANA? (kindergarten and primary education) is located in the outskirts of the city of Valencia. The staff is compound by 18 teachers, attending a population of 200 students from over 20 nationalities.
For over five years our school has been committed to ICT (IWB's, Internet, Creating audiovisual resources, School Radio, Digital Magazine ...). We are currently incorporating digital tablets to work our curriculum with special need children.
The main objective of this project is to give an international dimension to the school, transferring these innovative practices in a European context. For our school is very important to develop this European dimension in order to facilitate the integration of our students in the European space, fostering inter-cultural environments that would enable to form European citizens and therefore citizens of the world.
Our school is already working with the CEFIRE (Teacher Training Centre of the Ministry of Education of the Valencian Government), the University of Valencia and University of HELSINKY with the FINNABLE 2020 project. This project is developing educational videos via mobile, using a special shared platform called ?MoVIE?, which also has an application for mobile devices. Our partner, is the ?1st Experimental Centre? of Thessaloniki (Greece) linked to the Aristotle University of Elementary Education, which is also involved in projects like Comenius and other FINNABLE 2020 actions.
AMOUNT OF TEACHERS AND PROFILE
Five teachers of Primary Education of ?Ceip COMUNITAT VALENCIANA? belonging to the International Committee of our school. These committee has a leadership profile in the various projects that are being carried out by the school in order to have an impact on the school and its social community .
PLANNED ACTIVITIES
Through a Job Shadowing action we expect to have a practical experience with another primary school that already has an international experience in projects using technology.
We also expect to participate in structured English courses to improve the language proficiency of the teachers involved in any project in the European space. Language level that should be trained and improved as a requirement for participating in European projects, being this participation one of our school aims in the European context.
METHODOLOGY TO CARRY OUY THE PROJECT
We will transfer the good practices observed in our school partner related to the use of ICT in primary education and the execution of international projects. In order to accomplish this, we will use the job shadowing technique, sharing the information and experience gathered in our school observations with our partners. We will cover various aspects such as school organization , curriculum, distribution of space, building facilities, teacher training, school equipment , relationship with universities and institutions related to teacher training ...
On the other hand, we have selected structured language courses that have a special focus on the communicative approach. Keeping in mind that English language learning is one of our school goals, enabling us the participation in European projects.
DESCRIPTION OF THE OUTCOMES AND EXPECTED IMPACT
The main outcome we want to obtain is about the internationalization of the school through European projects. Projects that are already under-way and we want to become them as a special identity of our school.
We expect outcomes suc as:
- Awareness of the European dimension in education - Improving language skills - The use of ICT - The integration of other cultures in Europe
We believe that, although participation will be individual, the impact will be significant and relevant on the school community. We can achieve this impact thanks to the International Committee we have at the school and the activities that will be implemented, promoted and spread not only in our school but also outside, where the school community has a relevant role in the school life.
The participation of other institutions such as the universities of both countries and the Teacher Training Centre will consolidate structures of collaborative work, facilitating research, evaluation, innovative practices and the dissemination of the project.
This International Committee, composed by members of the school community (teachers, students, families, management) will give voice and participation to all levels in this project. This will allow and facilitate the contact with our partner at different levels and with different sectors of the school community. These communications will lead to wider professional relationship but also to a more spontaneous relationship among students and families.
-LONG TERM BENEFITS Improvement in English language proficiency. Inter-cultural knowledge and exchange. Awareness of European dimension and identity. Raising levels of school teacher q.
