Our world changes in such a rapid way that every organization needs to be flexible and adjustable in order to survive. Our school organization, in its attempt to respond to nowadays' needs, is trying to find ways which will lead it to development and provision of a better quality education in a safer and more creative environment for all the students.
For the above reasons, since the beginning of the school year, the teaching association has analyzed and evaluated the needs of our school. After that, in cooperation with the Parents Association and the School's relevant governing authority, we have developed our vision and have created our school's action plan which we will use as our guide to achieve our goals. One of our main objectives is the more efficiently use of ICT for making the learning results as better as possible.
Specifically, our goal is to make all teachers able to use ICT in the creation and application of their lesson plan both in their own but mostly in their students benefit. This will help us develop our students' creation, their equality, cooperation and solicitation spirit, as well as their communication with their peers, teachers and parents.
Based on the above, we also provide this application, to give our stuff an opportunity to expertise in the needs of our school and to follow methods and strategies which are used in European Schools in the specific subjects. We have already agreed with two schools abroad (Italy, Spain) to host some teachers from our school for a week. The teachers visiting will have as a goal to observe how the specific schools (in the above countries) are using ICT in action and how these technologies are efficiently included in the educational curricula of each school. We will also examine the different problems encountered during the process and ways of overcoming them. The specific schools were chosen based on their policies used on ICT subjects. In Spain, the school is using a program called “Escholarium”, which is a platform that enables the use of digital books in tablets. In Italy, the school is using the CLIL method simultaneously with the tablets during the teaching process. Two classes, of the above school, are included in the National Planning called: Cl@ass 2.0, which uses tablets and ICT during the teaching process as well as the European e-Twinning platform.
In addition, we have also pre-registered in different training seminars offered abroad form various organizations. The seminars are: in Greece with the title: ICT1, Technology Tools for Educators” (28/09/2015-03/10/2015), in Finland with the title: “New Learning Environments 1” (05/07/5-09/07/15) and in Belgium with the title: “Interactive technologies for the future classroom” (16/11/2015 – 20/11/2015). The content of the above training seminars is explained more specifically in Part D European Development Plan.
We expect that the above training seminars (offered by qualified, experienced professionals) will open new horizons in our educational practice and will help in the professional development of our teachers. Moreover, they will offer opportunities to widen knowledge (offer modern ideas and perceptions) in particular subjects that employ both our staff and our school community in general.
The teachers that will participate in the above activities will be chosen at the beginning of the new academic year 2015-2016 and will function as cores elements of knowledge base, attitudes, behaviors and skills which will then passed on to the rest of the faculty and students. The training observations of the participant staff have been benchmarked against specific criteria (as specified in Part D European Development Plan) according to the content of each criterion.
We expect that our participation will yield significant long term benefits for our school. Our school’s vision will best served via the integration of the knowledge base, skills, attitudes and behavior set that our teachers will acquire via these programs. Furthermore, these programs will strengthen the faculty’s (and all others involved) commitment towards the way forward which involves the further enhancement of our institution and its establishment as a top class education unit.
