Uusia ovia kehittymiseen 2014-2016
Start date: Jul 1, 2014, End date: Jun 30, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

Adult Education Centre of South Karelia is a non-formal adult education organisation that offers courses for lifelong learning in the area of Lappeenranta, Luumäki and Taipalsaari. Internationalisation and knowledge of different cultures is one of the basic tasks of Finnish Adult Education Organisations according to the law. The goal of the mobility project NEW TOOLS FOR DEVELOPMENT 2014-2016 is to get teachers to develop their vocational and pedagogical skills in taking part in European further education courses. The institute has earlier been a partner in two Grundtvig projects. The experiences have been great and the cooperation still goes on with some partners though the projects are over. Now this new project aims to broaden the European cooperation of the institute by encouraging teachers to take part in further education courses or even teach themselves in other European countires. The objective of the the project: nine teachers training themselves in further education courses and one teacher teaching in an european adult education organisation. The participants are teachers of languages, art, handwork, music and sports. Teachers are both full time teachers and part time teachers. Part of them have experience in European cooperation and part of them have not. Also the manager of the institute will attend the European further education courses of innovation management and how to implement new teaching technologies. The teachers find the suitable courses themselves and organise the travelling. The institute helps if needed. After the courses the participants tell to the other staff of the institute what kind of competence and knowledge they have learnt and what kind of new ideas and contacts they have found. Using the magazine of the insititute, newspapers, webpages and radio, the results of the courses will be told to the citizens of the region. The goal of the project is to get positive and long-lasting effects on the teachers involved and the organisation itself. The expected impacts of the project are: the participants learn new skills, the work motivation grows, there will be new ideas of courses and new European contacts. The organisation will develop and the imago of it will become more active and dynamic. The adult students also learn new skills. An important value of these mobilities is that the creativity, self esteem, language skills, active citizenship, and knowledge of European cultures and European identity of students will grow, when the competence of the teachers will grow.
