The „Urban Guerillas” is a program which will last for 7 months, including a youth exchange program of 9+2 days, with 25 participants from 5 countries (Germany, Poland, Spain, Turkey and Hungary). It will take place in Pécs, Hungary.
The objective of the exchange program is to draw the local community’s attention and raise their awareness to the social (originated) problems that the youngsters consider to be the most acute and crucial ones. They would do it with the help of contemporary art and guerilla methods. A determining part of the exchange is that drawing attention does not/can not happen merely by personal performance and the inclusion, involvment of the local community but on the internet, mainly via the social media, community websites. From the individual (group) actions and their images, community contents will be generated by the participants in order to multiplicate the desired and already achieved impact. According to our experiences, such multimedia „virus” contents spread fast on the world wide web therefore we will pass and cross not even the county but the country borders very quickly.
The participants of the program come from and work at different fields of the social sphere, therefore the sent participants will make up a sufficiently homogeneous team to analyse those important (determined and considered by them) social problems as thoroughly as possible. Youthworkers, social workers, pedagogues, project coordinators, psychologists and media specialists can all be found among the employees of the partner organizations. Each leader has already participated in international programs (e.g. crime prevention programs) that were all successfully completed. The youngsters (age 16-30) will be chosen by the leaders (4 per each organization + 1 leader).
The participants will actually acquire/ or develop their 8 key competences, of which the most remarkable and outstanding will be the development of ICT and digital skills. We will lay special emphasis on it during the exchange: they will get the chance to acquire the proper knowledge and usage of the devices (camera, photocamera, DSLR technique) and meet some softwears (editing and image editor programs) with the help of experts. Furthermore, the safe and legal use of social media will get a significant part as well.
Due to the complexity of the program, several competences and skills of the participants will improve and develop. Apart from the above mentioned ICT skills, e.g. their foreign language skills will improve by using English as the language of communication, by using non-formal methods, they will gain new knowledge, methods and experiences. Their social and citizenship competences, cultural and expressiveness, as well as their initiatives and enterpreneurship will all be developed, primarily owing to the intercultural environment and the methods.
During the exchange the first step will be to acquire a sufficient knowledge both from the field of ICT and methodology, then choosing the social problems that will be analysed and elaborated to be able to approach it with sensitivity and work with it during their individual project planning phase. After that a mini-campaign will have to be set up, elaborated and managed based on the selected social problems.
As for the outcome, each project has to be planned in a way to get a consumable „product”, suitable for sharing, and of which aim is to initiate a dialogue, to form opinion and views. We would also like to organize a „travelling exhibition” among the participating countries (from the material that the participants create during the exchange), and to foster further cooperations and joint projects in the future.
Implementation:
The project will be conducted between the period of February 2015 – August 2015 in Pécs, Hungary.
