PROJECT
FINISHED
In the background of this project lies both the need of our staff's member to update her English language and culture teaching competence as well as our organization's values and objectives to raise both our staff's and pupils awareness in global issues, to deepen our knowledge on EU and to improve our pedagogical quality.
The objectives of this project can be grouped in two categories: the pedagogical objectives and objectives linked to internationalisation. The pedagogical objectives comprise both the improvement in teachers's own overall language competence and the gain in new, inspiring language teaching methods integrating also technology into classroom. The objectives connected to internationalisation involve raising European awareness in teaching, creating networks and EU projects with schools in EU and UK and bringing new tools to enhance the tolerance of cultural differences.
The number of participants is one, Ms Sari Ylipulli, age 49. She is working since 7 years as English teacher in our organization, where her other subject is French. In addition, she teaches Italian in a upper secondary school. Her career as language teacher is long, she started as Italian teacher already in 1987 in adult education. Today her English students' age in our primary school varies from 13 to 15 years. She is active in searching and creating new teaching methods and developing her English language competence.
The project sees the participation of above mentioned teacher in English language and culture course at Anglolang Academy of English, in UK. The course is aimed to English language teachers and it cover areas like European dimension, new teaching methods, improvement in language competences and organisation of teaching and learning. Thus the content of the course meets well the needs of our organization and the participating teacher.
After the course the participating teacher will have gained new language teaching skills, materials and motivating methods. Her teaching will be more student concentrated and she will be able to transmit updated information on British culture and way of life to the students. Also the teaching of fluent communication in English will improve as she will use more frequently the target language in classroom.
The project's impact will be seen as increased awareness on EU, global issues, British culture and inter-cultural differences. Our organization will have new opportunities and increased readiness to get involved in EU projects and networks between EU schools. Also, the alternative, new teaching methods in languages and culture will be adopted by other teachers after different dissemination projects (workshops etc.) have been carried out.
