Project Universitas aims at monitoring territorial resources in the Italian-Slovenian cross-border area of Trieste- Koper/Capodistria and Gorizia/Nova Gorica, in view of the creation and implementation of international cooperation projects among Universities in Central and South-Eastern Europe. The research, carried out by the Friuli Venezia Giulia Section of the Jacques Maritain International Institute consists in the analysis of three models of university cooperation, to determine their feasibility. The models are: network (establishment of university networks on individual educational or research projects), inter-faculty (joint establishment of faculties through seconded human resources from participating universities), and new university (creation of a new university with new or seconded staff). A technical international research team is charged, additionally, with identifying on site the subjects of excellence in the educational, cultural, and institutional sector who can support the creation of an InCE University. To this end, the project aims at assessing the potential of the Italian-Slovenian crossborder territory, the actual educational offer, the institutional synergies, the expectations and willingness of the economic operators; enhancing advanced education in an international context as a resource for cross-border development; contributing to the promotion of cooperation in border areas in the field of research and education; as well as encouraging greater integration in the border area through a common approach and a strategic project in the field of education. In addition to the research activity, the initiative also envisages an information phase consisting in the creation of a database - containing information on the educational supply and demand and on the legislative framework of Central and South-Eastern European Countries - a CD Rom and a project website, where the results are published and presented on the occasion of a closing conference.
