United by Skate - Back to the roots
Start date: May 18, 2015, End date: Dec 18, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

The multilateral youth exchange "United by skate - back to the roots" between the five participating countries Germany, Austria, Spain, the Czech Republic and the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia took place in august 2015 in a period of two weeks in Chemnitz / Germany and represented a thematical continuation and extension of the networking and cooperation of fhe five participating associations. There participated two supervisors and ten young people from each country, who were involved in the sports-oriented youth cultures of Skatboarding, BMX and Inline and who were mostly socially disadvantaged for different reasons. Besides experience-oriented educational program points, youth culturally oriented group works and various public events integrating the local environment, the workshops in the field of intercultural learning focused the historical origins, developments and the current situation of the referenced youth culture in the participating countries with a comparative european and international perspective. Based on the workshop results we developed strategies together with the young people in order to formulate their demands and needs with respect to local decision makers and to actively engage youth policy. In this context, the aspects of cross-cultural understanding and combating poverty and social exclusion were connected to the sports-oriented youth cultural component of the meeting. During the project, the participants were included in a process of intercultural exchange and project development, marked by a high degree of participation , which used the catalytic role of the referenced youth culture in order to combine historical learning and comparative social analysis with social and youth political commitment.
