The project is coordinated by “Groupe d’Appui et de Solidarité” (Support and Solidarity Group),a non-profit organization and sending structure, in partnership with the Moldavian non-profit hosting organization. The project, entitled « A Franco Moldavian experience for citizen commitment » will send six young volunteers as part of the European Voluntary Service (EVS) on a short term mission to Chisinau in Moldavia.
The objectives for this voluntary project over the 2 week period in July 2015 are first of all to allow young French people, facing social and professional integration difficulties, to experience a civic engagement through a community project which responds to the needs of other citizens (in this case Moldavians and immigrants). Furthermore, to develop and strengthen capacity to integrate civilly, socially and professionally (knowledge, behavior and know-how) but also to accentuate their autonomy and to assume responsibility and broaden their knowledge of other cultures, contexts, manners of living and mixing with and exchanging with Moldavians, especially Moldavian youth.
Through this project we would like to highlight the richness of the Eastern European cultures as well as elements of Moldavian culture unknown to many Europeans with an aim of breaking down stereo types and prejudices which may exist vis à vis Eastern European countries today. Furthermore this experience will allow young people to become more aware and appreciate the cultural differences and values that exist within Europe.
The activities proposed during this short term voluntary mission are aimed towards helping people and encouraging the involvement of young Europeans in local projects; stimulating both mutual learning and intercultural exchanges.
The preparation and hosting of DIY and artistic expression workshops, participation and aid to prepare for the winter as well as hosting meetings in schools are among these activities.
By the means of the EVS we wish to give another dimension to civic and solidarity actions carried out by our organization in France and more particularly in Picardy. By giving the youths of Picardy the opportunity to experience an intercultural civic commitment we would hope to encourage their involvement within our organization and other actors involved in community projects in Picardy.
