"Ciudad de Columbia" school is a Bilingual State School in Comunidad de Madrid for Infant and Primary Education. We joined the Bilingual Program ten years ago, therefore we have broad experience at using CLIL as teaching methodology. There are some SEN students integrated in the school community as Autistic Spectrum Disorder students, Gifted students and students with health care needs. The school is located in a town in the North of Madrid Community, just 20 km away from Madrid city and near the mountains in the north of the region. We would like to carry out this project because it will allow us to learn other ways of using the ICT in our classes. This is a field that changes very quickly and we feel that we are not fully developing our students’ digital competences. At the same time, we want to foster our students understanding of different cultures and create along with our partners, motivating and meaningful activities that help them practice their linguistic competences in a foreign language. Our main objectives are: a) To learn new methodologies and activities that use the ICT as a tool for learning and to develop our students’ digital competence. b) To learn how to adapt those activities to children with different learning styles and different educational needs (especially SEN students, Autistic Spectrum students, etc). c) To get to know some new applications for school-family interaction, like Bynapp, class Dojo and see if they really facilitate parent’s involvement. d) To share experiences with other European schools and learn new innovative methodologies to develop our teachers’ professional development. We believe this will create a modern, dynamic learning environment in our own school. e) To increase our student’s knowledge about Europe and develop respectful attitudes towards different cultures and people. In order to achieve those goals we planned the following activities: • To visit a school in Liepaja (Latvia) to observe the use of different applications for computers and tablets and the way to implement them in the daily school activities. To observe lessons where LEGO Mindstorm robotic kits are used, and to learn how they can foster and develop our students’ mathematic skills and digital competences. Two candidates (the Head Teacher and the TIC Coordinator) will travel to Liepaja. The Head Teacher will focus in organization and management issues and the TIC Coordinator will focus in the use of these methodologies and implementation in the classroom. • To visit a school in Zwolle (Netherlands) to learn about Dalton methodology and see the way it can help us to include children with special needs. To learn new innovative methodologies and programs like the use of ICT through tablets and programs for Secure use of the internet. Two candidates (the Deputy Head Teacher and the Bilingual Coordinator) will travel to Zwolle. The Deputy Head Teacher will focus in organization and management issues and the Bilingual Coordinator will focus in the use of these methodologies, implementation in the classroom and effectiveness. -After the job-shadowing period, we’ll carry out workshops and training induction to teach the competences to the rest of the teaching staff. There will be a schedule to observe the participants’ lessons. - Implementation of the competencies and learning outcomes in the classroom. - Advertising of the results to the wider community and local administration through the use of web-page, school’s Twitter account, head teacher meetings, local newspaper, Good Practices meetings, etc. The participants were selected according to their merits and involvement in the school’s projects. This training will be certified using European tools as Europass and National Certificates. Our school will bring into the project our experience in the Bilingual Project, using CLIL methodology and our knowledge about collaborative work among pupils. The short-term intended impact in participants will be the wider use of ICT in their methodologies and inclusion of different activities for children with SEN in their planning. They’ll learn about the country’s culture and traditions and about the Education System, as well. We plan to increase the use of e-twinning for collaboration between our teachers and teachers from abroad. Other aim is to develop our teachers’ professional development. Our long-term goals are the overall implementation of the observed activities in our teaching practice. Besides, to improve the school’s performance and reputation, to become a model for the rest of schools in our town.
