Ulysses - a European odyssey with young artists for new music
Start date: May 1, 2012,

The Ulysses network federates European partners involved in the support and promotion of young artists. These partners play a fundamental role in the recognizing, accompanying, professionalizing, and developing of the carriers of young European composers and performers. The network is composed of 14 partner institutions from 10 European countries (academies, summer schools, support programs, orchestras, choirs, ensembles or festivals) and more than 90 international associated partners. The project’s main ambition is to promote contemporary classical music in Europe by developing innovative forms of cross-border musical creation and encouraging audience development. Through its activities, the Ulysses project will foster the mobility of 400 young artists throughout Europe, through 280 performances. The network will also support the development and the European aspect of the artists’ careers, by providing them with professional production conditions, connections with renowned classical music artists and venues, and activities with an inherent European dimension. Moreover, this initiative will encourage innovation in the creation of new music via mediation activities, encounters between young and confirmed artists, creative performances in public spaces, the use of new technology and experimentations, open workshops and rehearsals, and special projects for young musicians. It will also reinforce the visibility of new works towards the audience through various channels (venues, radios, web, films, recordings, interviews), and support the development of interdisciplinary art forms (music and theatre, dance, visual arts). An online platform dedicated to artists and professionals will also be developed in order to meet the needs that have been identified. It will feature a public database on composers and their works, an online magazine about musical creation, a professional hub for European producers and distributers, and a management tool for competition panels.
