Uilekot goes international 6
Start date: Oct 1, 2014, End date: Sep 30, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

‘t Uilekot is a regional socio-cultural centre that works mainly within themes of culture, ecology, international solidarity and youth work. The organisation’s premises consist of an office, an Eco&Fair shop, a youth house, an ecological garden and a bar. Besides ‘t Uilekot organises weekly activities (workshops, debates, seminars,...) and monthly activities ( children activities) and a cultural programmation for all different ages. The volunteer wil be introduced to all activities of ‘t Uilekot and during one year the volunteer wil grow to be part of the staff. The volunteer will gain a lot of experience in working in a small regional organisation and will exchange fresh ideas and influences out of the cultural background. This year, especially, the volunteer will be concerned in the organisation of a large audiovisual project about tolerance ( Jongerenpact 2020). This proyect is supported by the Flemish goverment. Through a youth television ( TRAP TV) is 't Uilekot working with social disadvantaged youth from the Flemish Dender region. Our goal is to bring together those groups and to stimulate their active engagement in our society. The volunteer will/can work on: - Cooperation in our audiovisual youth project: jongerenpact2020,helping with the workshops of the proyect, doing edition work, going to meetings, cooperate in actions, promotion, preparing activities, finding new ways to keep the youth group active etc. He can also bring in some international aspects and culture (expression, knowledge of music) to the activities. - Cooperation in the Eco&Fair store= tending the store, reception of clients, orders, promotion (this just to share the experience and together with the other volunteers) participation in the meetings of the group, studying the model of fair trade and giving reflection and critics to the group of local volunteers about their concept of fair trade. Organise a promotion campaign and to work out a client information shield with the different values of our products in cooperation with the other partners. - Practical tasks and maintenance work: spreading posters, mailing the members, working with the membership magazine, arranging and cleaning the bar, organising placement and equipment for groups, team tasks, maintenance of the garden and the house etc. - ITC: organising ‘t Uilekot’s website and second hand books database and lay-out tasks (membership magazine and promotion: posters and flyers). - Weekly organise and do preparations for the opening of the bar of ‘t Uilekot on Friday and Saturday evening. - Making – in a creative way – promotion about our activities in the café. - Preparing and mailing of our (paper) magazine to the Uilekotmembers (monthly). We will discuss the tasks with the volunteer when he arrives and after a “getting to know” -period he will be able to decide which work groups he will join and together with the coordinator of ‘t Uilekot they will discover what kind of work is most suitable for the volunteer. That moment we will also make a volunteer’s agreement together. The volunteer will work approximately 38 hours a week. Office days are from Tuesday to Friday, working hours from 10 to 5pm. But there is also quite often possible evening and weekend work (meetings of the workgroups and helping with the youth and the children activities etc.). The volunteer is free to chose but participation and contact with other volunteers mostly happens during evenings and weekend. That is why Mondays are free. Every week in ‘t Uilekot is different depending on what is happening at the moment. Often there is plenty of office work, but then again for example during official holidays ‘t Uilekot arranges a lot of activity for children, so then the volunteer will be more engaged in social activities. And for example during the months of november-december the volunteer will be spending a lot of time working with the Christmas sales: decorating the house, putting prices on products, arranging the products and the shop, serving customers etc. The work schedule of the volunteer also depends a lot on which things he will take initiative to work with. Here is an example for a week schedule: Monday: free (or language class) Tuesday: team meeting, making a poster, managing the second hand books, organising the shop Wednesday: spreading posters, mailing, helping with the working of our audiovisual youth proyect, organising the shop Thursday: lay out of the membership magazine, organising the shop, lurning to work with the website of Uilekot Friday: mailing the membership magazine, organising the shop and preparing the bar (cleaning, promtion, new articles, ...) Evenings/In the weekend: possibly helping with the arrangements of an activity for the youngsters or the children’s playground, meetings of the workgroups or a concert, ...
