Start date: Jun 1, 2015, End date: May 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

Background: Linnankosken lukio has no wireless Internet connection available. Thus our school can't have utilized ICT- courses for teachers. ICT has only been taught in our school's special computer class which sits some 30 students, the total number of students, however, being over 600. Teachers haven't been able to create learning contents or evaluation material carried out with the help of ICT. The wireless Internet connections is supposed to be available before the school year 2015-2016. The need for ICT- training for teachers is urgent. ICT enables the use of authentic material which is not time or place bound. Good language skills are required from teachers for benefial use of ICT. The ICT training courses available for teachers in Finland are far too short-term and fragmented, nor do they offer a possibility to practise the learned skills and material during the training course. The heterogeneous student body and their different levels of skills require versatile teaching methods which entail efficient and natural use of ICT. The upcoming electronic matriculation examinations demand a quick implementation of ICT. Objectives: Teachers must be trained to use ICT professionally, for example to create learning contents and evaluation material. Teachers' language skills also need updating. We want to improve the quality of our know-how and increase the attraction of our school. We also want to improve learning results, the comfort of our school environment and prevent the lengthening of studies till four years . With the help of ICT students get better support in their studies. We want to increase interaction between different school subjects. We want our international co-operation to cover the whole school community and to network with the help of Erasmus ICT-courses. Participants: The five teachers (1-30 years in post ) represent different school subjects. They have accomplished their pedagogical studies in different decades. They have very heterogeneous skills in ICT. The in-service training, in which the teachers have participated, have been very limited and short-sighted. Most teachers do not know how to use ICT in a meaningful and versatile way in teaching. Activities: The teachers will participate in ICT courses during 1.6.2015-1.6.2017 and share the gained knowledge both with their own school community and regionally as well as nationally with their own subject organizations from 1.6.2015 onwords. Methodology: Reflection of basis, needs and goals. Interactive and blended learning. Introduction of various different learning environments. Hands-on workshops. Group discussions and collaborative learning. Reflection and sharing of new skills and knowledge. Results: The teachers are given practical, hands-on tips and they learn new skills how to use ICT. They will apply the acquired skills and knowledge in their teaching, inspiring their colleagues. Linnankosken lukio will now on use ICT in a meaningful and effecient way in teaching. It will be much easier to move on to electronic matriculation examinations and students can be trained approriately and systematically. ICT becomes a natural and efficient part of teaching, studying and learning. CLIL will be used and interaction between different school subjects will take place in our scool. Our school will offer in-service training in Osaava- course calendar. The teachers who participated in Erasmus training will plan and possibly realise an ICT-course sharing and distributing their skills and knowledge to their colleagues in Uusimaa. The teachers also contact their own national subject organizations through which the learned skills can be distributed further elsewhere in Finland. Skills and experiences can also be shared and discussed in various ICT groups in social media. Long term benefits: The ICT know-how of the trained teachers is utilised when writing the new school curriculum, coming into effect 2016. School practices, for example management and communication are developed towards electronic, making them easier, more inclusive and real-time.
