TTT - Turning The Tide
Start date: May 1, 2016, End date: Nov 30, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

2015 was a special year for European Union. It was the European Year for Development, the first ever European Year to deal with the European Union's external action and Europe’s role in the world. 2015 was also the deadline for the Millennium Development Goals that the world agreed to reach in 2000, and the year in which the international community agreed on the future global framework for poverty eradication and sustainable development. At the same time, in 2015 Europe was hit with a historic wave of humanity. People, many from the Middle East and North Africa, fleeing violence or poverty, seeking a place to live, a job and a chance in life for their children. In December 2015, Germany reached 1 million asylum applications, whilst the total number of asylum applications in EU was around 2 millions. And the IOM estimates that 3,772 people died trying to cross the Mediterranean, making 2015 the deadliest year ever. Short term and long term educational mobility projects such as youth exchanges, youth initiatives and mobility for youth workers can be a valuable tool to integrate young people with migration background and promote cultural and social diversity. International experiences facilitate active participation and intercultural learning in authentic surroundings. The methods used in international youth work focus on young people’ competencies instead of on deficits and development needs.Based upon this principles, Mundus decided to take action to integrate youth with a migration background (such as refugees, asylum seekers, as well as economic migrants) through international projects and to promote the opening towards cultural and social diversity in youth work. For all these reasons, we developed the Partnership Building Activity “TTT: Turning The Tide“, which is to be considered as the first step of a longer process. This PBA will be a working place for public and/or private organizations active in the youth field to share information and good practicies about their own national situation, as well as to develop future strategies of cooperation in the field, in particular by planning concrete and long-term international projects (such as Strategic Partnerships, International Youth Initiatives or multi-action KA1 projects) with youth with migration backgroundAims & Objectives: • To share info and debate about migrant situation in different European countries along with the analysis of their consequences upon youth and youth work • to discover and create international partnerships to plan international long-term projects on topics relevant to the PBA• to provide and share support to develop a project and to plan concrete steps for its implementation as well as feedback on first ideas• to provide and share information about funding and support tools (e.g. project management, good practice, intercultural learning, links and networks to look for further help) based on the individual needs of the partnerships / project teams• to share good practices on youth work with young people with migration backgrounds• to provide opportunities, space and frames for participants to experiment on possible relevant tools and methods • to share new and innovative approaches, concepts and activitiesProfile of Partners and Participants• NGOs/Associations/Cooperatives/Foundations active in the field of Youth Work, with a good experience in working with young people with migrant backgrounds• NGOs/Associations/Cooperatives/Foundations working at local level and with the will of developing projects on youth migrant issues• Public Institutions/Foundations dealing with migrant issues al local/regional/national/international level• Newcomers in the Erasmus +, with a good experience in working with migrant issues at local levelLogistics• 2 participants per country for a total of 22 participants. • 4 days of activities + 1 travel day, to be held in Barcelona in June 2016.
