The focus of the project strategy is on protecting and increasing the motivation for cultural and tourist development within the cross-border region, thus enabling the target groups from both regions to establish and maintain sustainable cooperation and lasting friendship. Briefly, this project will unlock the possibilities for sustainable cross-border cultural cooperation between the Dojran and Kystendil regions. Furthermore it will also increase cultural cooperation between Republic of Macedonia and Republic of Bulgaria, which have many common attributes, yet not enough explored and exchanged. People from the both regions share same destiny across participation in WW 1. Nowadays, these two regions, although in relative distance, have joint story which bound them. More over, in long term, this cohesion between these two municipalities will be used as an example for universal acceptance between all nations which participated in WW 1 on the both sides from the front line. Achievements: • Build lasting friendship and cooperation, between citizens of Dojran and Kyustendil through familiarization with the historical events from World War I, which took place on the territories of both municipalities;• Transformed historical events from lines of division into points of cohesion among the ethnicities from both sides of the border, with respect and tolerance towards the past and vision for the future that will significantly contribute towards developing joint European values;• Developed potentials for increasing tourist offer from both regions through valorization of the values of the locations of cultural – historical significance;• Reconstructed old Turkish school in Star Dojran into a WWI Museum;• Renovated, protected and marked WW I military objects (Dojran); Reconstructed military bunker near the residence of General Zhekov, Chief of the Bulgarian Army during the WW 1 (Kyustendil); Reconstructed road to the St. Troitza temple memorial (the ossuary from WW I) in the village Gyeshevo (Kyustendil);• Researched, collected and produced materials related to WW I military activities and public presented into a form of exhibition in Kystendil and into lasting museum exhibition in Dojran;• Identified and organized information are presented in form of a Study;.• Carried out Intercultural learning and managing diversity workshop in Dojran;• Carried out two-day Discover the other Fairs in Dojran and Kyustendil;• Produced CD multimedia material related to historical sites and the WW I;• Produced two brochures for the events in WW I (Kyustendil) and the other for the events in related to WWI and the project activities (Dojran).
