Altogether 10 laboratory assistant apprentices of our vocational school (Carl-Engler-Schule, Karlsruhe, Germany) are visiting one of our two partner schools for a period of three weeks. The one partner school (Saima vocational college) is located in Imatra, Finland. The other partner school (Instituto de Educación Secundaria ‚Andrés De Vandelvira’) is located in Albacete, Spain. We are sending two students to Imatra from April to May in 2016 and in 2017, respectively. Also, three students are sent to Albacete in autumn 2015 and in autumn 2016. Finnish and Spanish trainees are coming to Karlsruhe in return, too. However, the return visits to Germany are not part of this application. At the partner schools, our apprentices are attending chemistry lessons, which are held in English during their presence. They are also gaining knowledge from on-the-job-training experiences at local chemical companies or public facilities with chemistry labs lasting for several days. The three main objectives are: 1. Getting to know new analysis methods, which are not taught at the Carl-Engler-Schule and are not used at the home companies of the trainees. 2. Improvement of their English language skills, especially concerning English laboratory terminology 3. Further development of their personality and a heightened willingness to be mobile across the European Union In the last 2-3 days of the exchange period the apprentices will have the opportunity to visit Helsinki or Madrid, both major European metropolises. The students are personally responsible for the organization and planning of this part of the exchange program (e.g. finding an appropriate accommodation, organization of the sightseeing program). During their stay in Finland and Spain our apprentices are temporarily released from their home companies. So they do not need to take private holiday time.
