Transcultural Research Artist Curator Exchange Ser..
Transcultural Research Artist Curator Exchange Series
Start date: May 1, 2010,
TRACES supports the research, critical theoretical exchange and transmission of interdisciplinary art works in a trans European context, through the development of critically engaged dialogue and transcultural exchange in contemporary visual arts and performance in a series of 3 symposia and the publication of a book/DVD. The five day symposia offer time and space for partner curator/researchers and artists to get to know each other, discuss their critical and analytical processes, share skills, present the work of their organisation and artists in a public venue.Growing out of a natural affinity between the partners and their mutual desire to enhance ongoing dialogue, philosophical and technological research, critically engaged and socially aware practices. TRACES aims to develop new cooperation links between Belgium, Scotland, Slovenia, Hungary, Finland, Germany and Lithuania, through the engagement of cultural professionals, researchers and artists working internationally. The outcome of the program is the publication and presentation of the reflections, creation and writing of the group in the TRACES book and accompanying DVD. The publication is launched at a simultaenous event in all partner locations, and distributed through associated festivals, exhibition venues, educational and cultural institutions. In a time of cultural mutation, migration and diversity, artists and curators are required to embrace a highly mobile professional practice across multiple artforms and places, in order to respond and engage with interdisciplinary media/sound/performance forms in a socially aware context. A common theme between the partners is mixing interdisciplinary practice, research and urban connections with internationally mobile networks. A future goal is facilitating trans European exchange of cultural experiences, critically engaged dialogue and presentation of curatorial and artistic work through the creation of an interdisciplinary platform and network.
