The ALPS Bio Cluster will establish a transnational cluster network in the biotech and medtech sector by involving actors from 6 alpine regions in research, training and industry, especially small and medium-sized companies, in order to boost joint economic development by reaching a critical mass of key players. The envisaged transnational cluster builds on strong regional cluster structures and will improve innovation capabilities and deepen collaboration by implementing two thematic and sustainablenetworks: one on “Autonomy and healthcare” and one on “New diagnosis and therapies” with the two cross-sectoral approaches of linking green and red biotech with environmental health on one side and on bridging ICT and medical devices with healthcare at home on the other side. A "Healthy life at home in the Alps in a natural environment worth to be preserved" will be promoted through marketing of the Alpine brand. Achievements: Following to the organization of the previous events, each partner is continuing to mobilize its actors (SMEs, research centers…) to build European projects. Specific supporting actions (search for partners, small working meetings...) were organized for identified European open call for projects, in order to enable Alpine actors to integrate or build European collaborative projects. A brokerage event in Milan was also organized in the framework of Biotech 2010 and gathered 49 participants who attended 129 bilateral meetings. Two networking tools were implemented: Google like tool "www.alpslifesciencesearch.com” to find Alpine partners and the Mindbrowser tool, database of project ideas. To manage the activities, a project steering committee and conference calls were organized. A meeting dedicated to the long term sustainability of the project was organized to work together on this issue.
