Training to Imagine

This was a Training course about practical theatre techniques for Trainers, youth workers and active members of NGOs to enhance creativity, teamwork, leadership, and inspire new projects. Our project is named “Training to Imagine”. It aimed to provide people who work in the field of youth, the skills and the theories that would assist them in their work to be more communicative, creative, team-centered, spontaneous and improvising efficiently in difficult situations. All these were developed and enhances through drama and theatre. During the 6 days, participants worked with improvisational techniques and concepts, drama conventions and storytelling etc. These methods assisted the participants into exploring their spontaneity, capacities and out of the box thinking. Therefore they addressed their professional - and even their personal – needs and interactions by using innovative approaches. “Enjoying what you do make you more attached to the cause that you serve.” As a result, it targeted to inspire the participants in creating new, appealing and innovative projects according to the needs of the environment they work in, the needs of their local community, the NGO’s or the department that serves the youth. In a further perspective, the participants of this training played a crucial role in developing qualitative and creative future projects in the youth field. The expected outcome of the training course was to render youth leaders, youth workers, facilitators and trainers confident and competent enough to become successful trainers in the youth programes under Erasmus+ and to become multipliers of the knowledge and experience gained. The target group of this project included youth leaders, youth workers, facilitators, trainers and people working with young people with fewer opportunities. The participants aged 18 – 38 years old. There was no need of a theatre background for the participants to have in order to be able to participate in this training, as the methods and activities will be used as tools in the non-formal learning process. The main working methods in this training course were non-formal education and the informal way of learning. These included a huge variety of drama, theatre and improvisation activities that cover: ice-breaking games, energizers, workshops, team-building exercises, group dynamics, presentations, peer to peer education, experiential learning, group outdoor educational activities, visits, reflection groups, role-playing, simulations, cooperative learning, field trips, constructed discussions and debates. The objectives were: -To develop skills like creativity, spontaneity, communication, problem solving and teamwork. -To provide theatre and drama techniques and methods that can be used as tools in the participants’ future work -To enhance improvisational skills in order to think out of the box. -To provide the skills in order to think fast and effectively in difficult situations. -To identify the local needs of each participant -To think and create new efficient ideas for future projects. -To provide networking and partnership establishment opportunities. -To promote ‘Erasmus +’ programe possibilities for future youth projects
