Training 'The Fundamentals of a Democratic Society' for leaders of youth organizations.

The training 'The Fundamentals of a Democratic Society' for leaders of youth organizations will address the fundamental issues of democracy, in particular, transparency, accountability of governmental institutions, local governance, rule of law, freedom of speech and human rights.
The project will introduce the participants to Sweden, Swedish institutions and organizations relevant to the aims promoting and executing democratic principles as well as civil society activists and politicians.
Two week training will take place in Stockholm and Visby, Sweden.

Duration: 12 days
The expected number of the participants is 27 youth leaders from different NGOs and informal groups from the following countries: Sweden (Stockholm and Göteborg), Denmark, the Netherlands, Poland, Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia, Belarus and Russia.
Each partner will delegate 3 representatives.
The training’s main aims are:
to promote European citizenship’s values;
to improve participants’ level of competence and knowledge in the field of democracy;
to encourage active citizenship, inter-cultural dialogue, social inclusion and solidarity;
to foster improvements in the work of the participating organizations;
to enhance further cooperation;
to promote mobility and capacity building.
The first week of the training will take place in Stockholm and focus on the participants’ presentations, group work, meetings and study visits to the Swedish institutions and organizations.
The second week will include a training course at the Swedish International Center for Local Democracy (ICLD) in Visby. The course will cover the issues of local governments in a multi-level democracy, advantage of decentralization and Good Governance; a short course in change management and strategic planning.
Both weeks will include networking and social events, informal meetings, cultural activities, museum visits and sightseeing.
The participants will be encouraged to put their daily reflections on the created on-line resources (blog, fb page).
After completion of the training the participants will receive ICLD course certificate and will be provided with possibility to obtain Youthpass.
At the final summary meeting the participants will make a general evaluation of the project according to the developed form/questionnaire, provide their impressions and feedback.
The project’s general goal is that all participants of the training will expand their knowledge in the field of democracy and its functional principles; develop new working networks in Sweden that will provide a strategic ground for long-term partnership and cooperation.
