Training 'Peace Bridge' for youth workers and youth leaders.

Taking into account difficult socio-political situation with increased violent conflicts in the Eastern Europe region, it is of utmost importance to develop peaceful mechanisms of solving conflicts and its ramifications on a local, national and international levels.
Youth policy is often overlooked and needs special focus as the mentioned above situation unfortunately significantly expands youth-at-risk segment. Taking on revenge, developing hatred behavior, feeling frustration and impotence are some of the consequences of violent conflicts and worsening of social conditions.
However, youth, often dramatically affected, represents a powerful critical mass and a favorable environment for positive changes and a democratic development.
Youth inclusion, active citizenship and participation, inter-cultural dialogue and tolerance, post-war recovery and rehabilitation are important elements of the project – training for youth workers and youth leaders ‘Peace Bridge’ as youth, once empowered and ‘armed’ with knowledge, would not only be affected by the challenges their countries are facing, but would also have potential to be active change makers.
The project ‘Peace Bridge’ – a 7 day training for youth workers and youth leaders will take place in Stockholm, Sweden during August 2015 involving 7 partners from the following countries:
EU: Sweden (3 organisations) and Hungary;
Eastern Partnership: Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova/Transdnistria.
Each partner will delegate 3 representatives and the expected number is 21 participants.
The project’s general goals are:
- to promote European citizenship’s values;
- to improve participants’ level of competence and knowledge in the field of human rights and youth work;
- to encourage active citizenship, inter-cultural dialogue, tolerance and social inclusion;
- to promote mobility and capacity building;
- to develop new contacts in Sweden that will provide a strategic ground for long-term partnership and enhance further cooperation.
The project implies using of non-formal education method and includes the following activities:
1. Presentations by participants about their own work, their organisations, the state of human rights in their country, youth work and its current problems, in particular.
2. A workshop from Fryshuset about youth work methods, inter-cultural dialogue projects and long terms initiatives.
3. A workshop from Framtidståget on post-war syndrome, its effects and treatment methods that focuses on youth.
4. Study visits to:
- UN-representation and Red Cross in order to learn about their work in the area of human rights, humanitarian help and children's aid;
- Forum för Levande Historia in order to know about their work in the area of human rights, minorities rights and work with youth;
- the National Council of the Swedish Youth - to learn about Swedish youth policies and projects in the youth area.
An important element of the study visits is establishing direct contacts with the organisations for future consultancy or a perspective cooperation.
5. Reflections and discussions stimulate experience exchange and open dialogue, help to reflect on the received knowledge, to discuss how the experience can be applied in home countries.
6. Inter-cultural evenings fosters informal communication and learning about each others countries.
7. Film screening connected to the project's theme (recommended by the participants) gives a better picture on the problematic and stimulates debating.
7. Visit to museums and Stockholm sightseeing aims to add a vibrant cultural element to the program.
During these activities and in line with the project’s objectives the participants will:
- be introduced to good practices in the area of youth work, active citizenship and participation;
- deepen their knowledge in the area of youth inclusion and inter-cultural dialogue;
- learn to deal with multicultural diversity and cater for the needs of disadvantaged groups;
- acquire knowledge on the methods of work in conditions of post-war / post-conflict’s and solving conflicts in non-violent way;
- form close working links between organisations from Eastern Partnership and EU countries;
- increase the capacity and international dimension of the organisations’ work (especially for the Eastern Europe countries).
After completion of the training the participants will receive Framtidståget's workshop certificate and be provided with a possibility to obtain Youthpass.
At the final summary meeting the participants will make a general evaluation of the project according to the developed form/questionnaire, provide their impressions and feedback.
The participants will be encouraged to put their reflections on the own and specially created on-line resources (such as organisations' web-sites, blogs, fb page etc.), to distribute the project's information via their professional networks and to hold presentations in their home countries.
