Training on the nANOtechnology aspects of plastic COMPosites with enhanced properties for use in high-strength applications
TANOCOMP aimed at the urgent need of facilitating the technology transfer process of innovative technologies in European countries and provided a set of learning tools to enable involved actors to pro-actively participate and benefit of the process. TANOCOMP approached a field full of potential, namely nanocomposites. The benefits of the emerging technologies related to innovative nanocomposites had not been fully tapped yet. Therefore TANOCOMP used a European approach to, firstly, raise awareness on the benefits of the technology itself and its relevant application areas and, secondly, create a network of actors that was being trained in order to be able to exploit the potential of nanocomposites.4 countries were in the complementary consortium experienced in trainings and analysis and the exploitation of new markets and solutions.TANOCOMP hade a positive impact on the technological growth of Germany and Cyprus through their stronger involvement in the area of polymer nanocomposites, not having been developed in Cyprus, and gained importance in Germany where research activities in the field have significantly increased in the last years (granted by BMBF) and the numerous clusters developed in plastics technology and processing with focus on automotive and production technologies still have and are willing to learn much. Spain has a wide plastics market for automotive, packaging and electronics, while the equivalent Greek market mainly focuses on industrial packaging, geotextiles, membranes for construction. Thus, a wide audience benefitted from a technical achievement which allows cost savings and an increase in productivity. The expected project's results were: • Deeper understanding & knowledge of nanotechnology and its advantages; • Integration of the consortium's research activities in nanotechnology into the local industrial routes of plastics production, using new research tools and environmentally friendly methods; • Creation of competitive advantages in the plastics field (improved performance, lower cost) enabling economic growth; • Market awareness of the industry on the developments being carried out internationally.
