Training of Trainers and Development of Teaching Materials for Sports Instructors for the Disabled - Sports for Disabled
The Sports for Disabled project aims to meet an identified need for qualified sports instructors, at vocational training level, able to support and assist disabled persons in sports. Project partners will design, develop and introduce a new professional profile, namely ‘Sports Instructor for the Disabled’ comprising 5 training modules and will pilot this across the participating partner countries. The 5 planned modules comprise: a conceptual understanding of sport in relation to specific disabilities; physical, intellectual and social disability; educational responses for the disabled in relation to formal and non-formal education; the benefits of physical/sporting activity and activities for the disabled (modified or adapted sports, water activities, environmental activities and sporting competition). The training modules will be published in the form of a Training Curriculum, in the participating partner languages, in paper form and in the form of an interactive CD-Rom. A training of trainers handbook will also be produced in paper form and an outline methodology presented for the networking of organisations active in promoting and supporting Sports for the Disabled. All end products/results will be promoted via the internet sites of each project partner. Dissemination is key to the project and each partner has an active role and pre-determined focus group that will be kept informed of project progress throughout the project lifetime. Dissemination will address organisations & support services for the disabled, SMEs, VET providers and local authorities. Beyond the project lifetime, commercialisation of the project results is foreseen.
