Training course for local climate protection managers in Central Europe

Scientific evidence for the negative impacts of climate change has grown in the last years. The EU has reacted with an ambitious climate and energy policy. Municipalities and local authorities were identified as key players to implement necessary measures to achieve ambitious policy targets due to their responsibilities that directly interlink with potential energy and emissions savings. However, municipal decision-makers need to be equipped with the necessary key competences and skills. To fill this gap, the project coordinator, Climate Alliance Austria, has developed a curriculum for the target group of municipal decision-makers and staff, together with “umweltberatung”, a certified Austrian environmental educational institution. It is about climate change, climate protection, climate politics and activities on local and regional level. It offers formal and informal didactic approaches such as lectures, presentation of best practices, flexible interactive and self-study elements integrating the course into the world of work.
