Traineeships in Europe for the New Media Sector for VET Learners

The New_Media_Train_in_EU Project was a mobility project dedicated to 26 VET Learners trained at one of KBM Media Solutions training courses. The learners have been involved in a traineeship in another European country lasting eight weeks and focusing on the following sectors: SEO and Web Marketing Sector and ICT (including Microsoft Office Package and Office Work Skills). The project mainly targeted those learners who have an interest in approaching and discovering a career in the ICT sectors, whilst gaining some practical experience in one of the most widely developed and fast-growing sectors at a global level. The receiving countries of the project were Ireland, Italy and Malta and the destination cities: Dublin, Rome and Valletta. The project started in June 2015 and ended in May 2016. KBM Media Solutions marketed the project and published the Call for Applicants, whilst selecting the participants through the screening of their CVs, Motivation Letters and one-to-one interviews. Before the mobility, the participants received some preoperational training by the tutors of KBM Media Solutions LTD focusing mainly on cultural, pedagogical and linguistic preparation, with the goal to raise their awareness about the hosting countries of the project. During their traineeship abroad, the participants had the chance to gain certain knowledge, skills and competences in the following areas: SEO Techniques, Web Marketing and Social Media Marketing, Microsoft Office (Use of Word 2013, Excel 2013, PowerPoint 2013), Office Work Related Abilities (including Use of Emails and other Internet Tools). The main objectives of the New_Media_Train_in_EU Project with regards to the needs of the participants are: 1) Support VET Learners in acquiring practical experience in the ICT Sector, whilst acquiring competences, knowledge and skills valuable for their personal development and employability in the European Labour market; 2) Strengthen social inclusion, integration and raise participants’ awareness and understanding of other cultures, enhance social and cultural awareness through integration and cooperation; 3) Apply elements of ECVET and validate the period of mobility to ensure a better recognition of competences gained through the learning periods abroad (in section F.1 Learning Outcomes, all certificates to be granted to beneficiaries have been widely described); 4) Reinforce synergies and transition between formal and non-formal learning; 5) Enhance notably the participants' foreign languages competence. In addition the New_Media_Train_in_EU project addressed the following priorities indicated in Part B of the “Erasmus+ Programme Guide” of the European Commission: 1) Developing basic and transversal skills in all fields of education and training; 2) Developing partnerships between education and employment; 3) Enhancing Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) uptake in teaching and learning, through the support of learning and access to open educational resources (OER) in the education and training fields, supporting ICT-based teaching and assessment practices and by promoting the transparency of rights and obligations of users and producers of digitised content. These were the results reached in terms of skills and competences to acquire for the beneficiaries of the New_Media_Train_in_EU project: 1. Acquisition of Basic Skills: European regulations, rules relating to workplace, hygiene and prevention; 2. Acquisition of Transversal Skills: Communicative skills and awareness of European citizenship. Learn the work place rules, timetable and enhance relationship with colleagues; 3. Acquisition of Technical and Professional Skills relating to the sectors of the project.
