trainees and trainers gain international technical and economical competences
Start date: Jun 1, 2016, End date: May 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

In the school’s history, the HTL Wolfsberg has already co-operated with several schools and companies from all around Europe (EFRE projects, Leonardo projects) Furthermore, our students were also involved in several mobility projects conducted by IFA or Klub der Köche Kärnten. As our students showed increasing interest in mobility and companies prefer students with experiences in foreign countries we have decided to apply for Erasmus+ on our own. From our perspective modern engineering involves a lot of flexibility and innovation, which you can gain in mobility projects. In addition to that motivation, self-confidence as well as working autonomously are also fostered. That’s also what companies demand of their engineers. Moreover, English is commonly used as working language, that’s also why our students have to be proficient users of English as a lingua franca. A vast number of our students also starts working far away from our region after graduation, that’s why we interpret learning mobilities as crucial for increasing the chance to get a job on the labour market, and this is also necessary for their life experience. Currently, approximately 15 per cent of our students work abroad at their compulsory internship. As future and internationally oriented school we want to increase that number, as we interpret this as an increase of necessary quality attributes for international business. According to our standards mobility should not be an exception but the rule for our students. This year 14 students of our fourth form coming from all of our school’s departements want to work abroad. Twelve of these want to gain working experience in various companies in Portugal. Two students got the chance to work at the renowned Swedish company Sandvik. In Sweden the students live in a students‘ dormitory and experience Swedish vocational school routines. As part of their internship they also work in different departments of the company and are guided by trained employees who are used to instruct students doing their work placements at Sandvik. This guarantees the students a valuable experience for their working lives. In order to guarantee successful mobility projects we work together with experienced project partners of previous projects, who all are experienced and trained for hosting and educating our students. Most agreements and contracts are processed via e-mail. In addition to that personal contact and periodic calls with our partners ensure successful mobility projects. In Portugal and in Sweden there are partner schools near our students, who could help in case of upcoming issues. To keep the personal contact with the local responsible people up, we would like to send two of our teachers to each of the locations. These teachers could then also evaluate the students‘ internships more adequately. Before going abroad our students have to prepare themselves for their internships. They have to do self-study, which is coached by our project-team. This team provides them with necessary documents and information. Another important issue is to foster life long learning for our school’s staff. Mobility projects not only help students to gain competences, but also allow our teachers to experience new aspects of learning and teaching. With this knowledge the quality of our lessons could be improved and kept up to date. Teachers involved in mobility projects should then share their experienes with their colleagues and motivate more teachers for their own projects. In terms of this period we would like to send 15 people to Portugal, 15 to Spain and 5 to Romania. These participants are not exclusively from our school as we also want to motivate educators from other HTLs and even official representatives of the government for school related matters (LSI Dr. Zafoschnig and LSI Dr.Kanovsky-Wintermann (ECVET-expert) for mobility projects. In case of these continuing education mobility projects, topics like comparison of curricula, vocational school systems in different countries, internships, internationalisation, contacts with companies and offical representatives and further mobility projects will be dealt with.
